Paul Deutsch
FORO Energy

Paul Deutch

President and CEO of Foro Energy

25 years' experience in the oilfield service industry

Operational and Technical roles held internationally

BA Engineering (Dartmouth College) & BA in Government (Colby College)

Beginning his career as a field engineer with Schlumberger, Paul Deutch clocked up a wide range of experience in the 13 years he spent with this world leading provider to the oil and gas industry. During this early period of his career, Paul launched the Combinable Magnetic Resonance Logging Tool, headed up Norway operations and served as the Global Program Manager of Network & Infrastructure Services.

 

Building on this strong foundation, Paul then held high level roles within SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation) and Flotek Industries, Logan International (an oilfield service portfolio company of Cadent Energy Partners) and Diamant Drilling Services (a global drilling services company).

 

Now Paul is the President & CEO of Foro Energy where he became involved initially as an advisor in 2009, joining the Foro management team in 2010.

 

Paul is also a board member of Motive Drilling Technologies, Hicor, and Signum Instruments.

Ricardo Angel is a Managing Director at Energy Ventures where he leads origination for the business unit and for Energy Technology Ventures, a joint venture formed by GE, NRG Energy and ConocoPhillips, focused on investing in emerging energy technology companies. Ricardo joined GE from ChevronTexaco Technology Ventures’ Venture Capital group. Previous experience includes investment banking at Goldman Sachs and consulting at CNA Corporation. Ricardo holds an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School and Bachelors as well as Masters and Doctorate degrees in Engineering from the University of Illinois. Ricardo is based in San Francisco.

Luis Alcoser

Ventures Principal – Upstream for BP

BS in Natural Gas Engineering, ME in Petroleum Engineering, MBA & MA Finance

Luis is the lead for Upstream venturing activities within BP with experience in E&P engineering, operations and project management on unconventional, conventional, deepwater and arctic projects around the world.

 

Luis is also on the boards of XACT and Silicon Microgravity.

Iain Cooper

Manager Schlumberger Corporate Ventures

Over 25 years’ experience in E&P Technology Development, Management and Commercialization

Founder of Schlumberger Venture Group

Holder of 26 US Granted Patents

Iain Cooper has managed Schlumberger’s Corporate Venture Capital Group since 2008, a group that has made over 20 investments across the globe. Their most recent exit, the ocean-powered drone company Liquid Robotics, was acquired by Boeing.

 

Previously in Schlumberger, he has managed Drilling and Completions Research, and Global Product Development for the stimulation, cementing, and coiled tubing business units.

 

Iain has degrees in Mathematics and Physics and a PhD in Meteorology. He is a Chartered Physicist and Chartered Scientist, and Fellow of both the Institute of Physics and the Royal Meteorological Society. He also holds 26 granted US patents in a range of oilfield technologies, and co-authored and edited the best-selling SPE textbook “Advanced Drilling & Well Technology”.

 

Based in Houston, Iain is also a board member at GHGSat and CelluForce.

Stuart Moss

Stuart Moss is Managing Partner at Rickitt Mitchell, one of the UK’s leading independent corporate finance advisory firms, and for over 25 years has successfully provided advice to corporates, management teams, entrepreneurs and private equity houses on a range of mid-market transactions.

 

Over the last decade, as the retained advisor to a UK public company, Stuart managed a business development programme that resulted in the identification and acquisition of more than 20 companies in the US and Europe, investing a total of US$400m.

 

Stuart is based in Manchester, England. He is a Management Science graduate of the University of Manchester and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments.

ConocoPhillips Stakeholder

John L. Hand

Technology Program Manager – ConocoPhillips

27 years’ experience in reservoir engineering, enhanced oil recovery and field development

Technical and managerial roles held internationally in both research and operations

Bachelor of Engineering with Honors & Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering (University of New South Wales, Australia)

John L. Hand is the Technology Program Manager for ConocoPhillips responsible for the development, qualification and adoption of new technologies across the company globally. John’s career has been divided equally between both corporate Technology Centers and the operational business units.

 

John began his career with Atlantic Richfield Company at the Plano Research Center, Texas focusing on enhanced oil recovery. Several roles followed in Alaska, spending more than nine years in various technical and managerial positions associated with field development for the Prudhoe Bay, Point McIntyre and Kuparuk fields. John then held a number of managerial positions in the Subsurface Technology organization in Houston.

 

Prior to his current role, John was Manager, Subsurface in Norway, responsible for subsurface and production activities associated with ConocoPhillips’ Norwegian operated assets.

 

John also currently sits on the Boards of Foro Energy and Raptor Oil Ltd.
