Field Trial Angola December 2016

Stage of Well : INTERVENTION

Following the success of the field trial in the Gulf of Mexico, BiSN were invited to Angola to provide water shut off technology to two under performing wells.

Identification of problem:

Provide a seal in the production string and annulus to shut off a lower water producing zone.

Well 1 was producing approximately 3,600 bopd with 70% water production
Well2 was producing 100% water with no oil production

Issues to overcome:

Traditional methods of reducing water production from a well included setting multiple bridge plugs in the production string or perforating the production string and squeezing cement or a resin. Bridge plugs only baffle the water, slowing it down but not stopping it, as they cannot seal the annulus outside of the production string. Resins require perforations to access the annulus, damaging the production string.

Application

Wel-lok M2M™ WSO (water shut off tool) was set in both the wells as follows:

Well 1 - Wel-lok M2M™ WSO was set inside of a 5.5” OD screen and sealed inside a 9.5” ID open hole

Well 2 - Wel-lok M2M™ WSO was set inside of a 5” OD screen and sealed inside an 8.5” ID open hole

Outcomes/Conclusion:

Well 1 – After 2 months of production, water production has decreased from 70% to 54% and oil production has increased from 3,600 bopd to 5,000 bopd

Well 2 – After 2 months of production, water production has decreased from 100% to 45% and oil production has increased from 0 bopd to 1,300 bopd

Both jobs were deemed a huge success by the operator, particularly Well 2 that had previously been shut in due to lack of production. The operator has since discussed with BiSN opportunities to run their tools, WSO as well as others, in additional wells throughout the world.
