A common issue that effects the economic viability of a well during production is a high percentage water generation due to a watered out zone. This is particularly difficult to fix when the completion uses a sand screen and/or open hole gravel packs (OHGP), as the annulus beyond the screen needs to be sealed for the solution to be successful. Although there are other solutions on the market that are used to reduce the water cut, they require perforating or punching holes in the screens to gain access to the annulus. Therefore the BiSN’s Wel-lok M2M™ WSO solution provides an annular seal without damaging the completion in any way.
BiSN has developed a tool utilizing their patented Wel-lok M2M™ technology to address sealing off watered out zones. This tool is known as the Wel-lok M2M WSO™ (Water Shut Off) and creates a seal in the production string and the annulus without damaging the completion. This ensures the unwanted produced water does not enter the production string, increasing oil production rates and reducing the amount of waste water that must be disposed.
BiSN Wel-lok M2M™ technology consists of utilizing a modified thermite heater to melt a bismuth based alloy that cools and expands on solidification. Some of the advantages of this technology are:
