11 May Meet the Team Alex Crossland
Our employees are the core of BiSN, and it is their passion and drive that makes our mission possible. Because the people are what make our company what it is, we wanted to introduce our employees through a ‘Meet the BiSN Team’ series which will profile many of our talented workforce and give a bit of an insight to what they do for us on a day-to-day basis.
We recently spoke to Alex Crossland, our Applications Manager for the Eastern Hemisphere
1. How long have you worked at BiSN?
2. What does your role entail?
As Applications Manager for the Eastern Hemisphere, I am the primary interface with our clients to understand their needs and challenges. Then I work with our internal engineering team to develop a solution.
3. What is the best thing about working at BiSN?
It’s a really close team and already I feel like part of the family.
4. What is the most exciting part about your job?
We are always innovating, looking for new ways to develop and deploy the technology and this is driven by client needs so it is very rewarding to identify new or more efficient solutions to the challenges they face.
5. Are there any key lessons that you’ve learned from your time with BiSN?
Working remotely from the rest of the team, it’s important to keep in touch, even more so just now.
Alex and Jeff have been making the most of VC software to keep in touch.
6. What challenges have you faced within your role?
It has of course been a very difficult period for everyone, so it is a challenge delivering a ‘customer facing’ role through the COVID-19 pandemic. We have to make sure that we use the modern video conferencing tools available to us to continue to support our customers as best we can and of course everyone is only too well aware of the difficulties and very supportive.
7. What does your working day look like?
The day normally starts with catching up on emails that have come in from the USA over night before then contacting customers, delivering presentations over video conference and of course the inevitable digital ‘paperwork’! The afternoon would normally then involve speaking to my colleagues across the pond as they start their day to review opportunities and update on ongoing projects and testing.
8. Outside of work, how do you like to spend your time?
I love the outdoors and enjoy cycling and skiing, but my real love is of white-water kayaking! I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to try it for the first time when I was about 14 thanks to a very enthusiastic teacher at my school and it’s been a part of my life ever since. It’s even taken me all over the world and making lifelong friends in the process.
